An ongoing series of images collected during my monthly camping trips—a reflection of self through the natural world. In 2025, I made a commitment to camp once a month alone, and these short trips have brought unexpected comfort amidst discomfort, while also sharpening my analog photography practice. I’ve never been drawn to landscape photography; in fact, it always felt stale and overdone. Instead, I sought energy and chaos in crowds—tourists, animals, parents sleeping and kids screaming on the beach. I never thought I could find that same energy in a traditional landscape.
The road trip has always been my way of disconnecting, but time and again, I fall victim to the realization that "wherever you go, there you are." Shooting with black-and-white 120mm film, however, unlocked a new sense of presence and feeling. In the absence of color, the eye learns to predict an image through looking, feeling, noticing light, and being fully present in the surroundings.
These moments of focus provide the cure. I see myself in these forms—tangled, jagged, barely afloat, roaring in silence, and endlessly curious. And in turn, I see myself as another shape in their presence—aware and at peace.
All images are processed and scanned in my apartment.
